How to Fix Number Keys Not Working on Windows 11

Capacitive Sensor Reset
  1. Unplug your keyboard (if external) fa-plug

  2. Press and hold all number keys simultaneously for 30 seconds

  3. Reconnect the keyboard and test

Try this reset if some keys are unresponsive.

Function Key Lock Override
  1. Locate the Fn key on your keyboard

  2. Look for a key labeled Num Lk or similar

  3. Press Fn + Num Lk to toggle numpad functionality

Toggle if number keys aren't responding.

Use the Registry Editor
  1. Press Win + R

  2. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_USERS.DEFAULT\Keyboard Layout\Preload

  3. Locate the value named "1" (corresponds to the default keyboard layout)

  4. Double-click the value and modify it:

    • Enter the code for your desired keyboard layout
    • Examples:
      • 00000409: US English
      • 00000407: German
      • 00000809: UK English

  5. Close the Registry Editor

  6. Restart your computer to apply the changes

Exercise caution when editing the registry. Incorrect modifications can cause system issues.

IME (Input Method Editor) Reset
  1. Open Settings

  2. Click Time & Language

  3. Select Language & region

  4. Find your main language

  5. Click the three dots (...) next to it

  6. Choose Language options

  7. Under "Keyboards", delete extra ones

  8. Keep only your main keyboard

  9. Restart your computer

Reset the IME to troubleshoot language-specific keyboard issues.

USB Selective Suspend Setting
  1. Open Control Panel > Power Options

  2. Click "Change plan settings"

  3. Click on "Change advanced power settings" on bottom side.

  4. Expand "USB settings" > "USB selective suspend setting"

  5. Disable this setting for both battery and plugged in

Disabling USB suspend can prevent peripherals from disconnecting randomly.
